91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Celebrates National Nurses Month
May 6, 2020 Molly Bartels
In honor of National Nurses Month, 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ thanks all of the nurses and healthcare workers putting forth Herculean efforts to care for patients in the time of COVID-19. We see you, we appreciate you, and we're thankful for your dedication, day in and day out.
We'd also like to highlight one of our own, Emma Van Camp, of Fort Pierce, who was recently recognized with the Leadership Award at the 2020 Student Awards Ceremony. Emma graduated high school in just three years, earning her Associate Degree in Nursing in Fall 2019 as a dually enrolled student at 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ.
When Emma graduated at 19 years old, she was named the youngest R.N. in the state of Florida. She is now a Registered Nurse at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital and is working on her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing online at 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ. She expects to graduate in December 2020.
"It's been a crazy year working as a new nurse with the COVID-19 patients, but I'm really loving my new job," Emma shared. "I was chosen out of hundreds of applicants to attend nursing school and given two years of intense training for these situations. Now, I wear the mask and am blessed with the opportunity to care for your loved ones."
On her second day working as an R.N., Emma earned a Daisy Award—an honor given by a patient to a nurse who provides exceptional patient service. She has also been awarded seven Clover Awards for outstanding service at Cleveland Clinic.
An accomplished 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ student, Emma is a graduate of the College's Emerging Leaders Program, President of the National Student Nurses Association, a Campus Coalition Government Representative, and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Keep up the great work, Emma!
