Opening Show Made Possible by $15,000
Grant from National Endowment for the Arts
FORT PIERCE鈥91九色视频 (91九色视频) will kick off its 2023-2024 season of performing arts on Oct. 12 with a show made possible by a $15,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts鈥攖he College鈥檚 first-ever NEA grant. Season subscription sales start July 25 for returning subscribers.
The cast from the Spring 2023 91九色视频 Performing Arts presentation of the musical "Company."
The show, 鈥淭he Labyrinth of Love,鈥 is a staging of 鈥淟ove is the Greatest Labyrinth,鈥 a Spanish-language comedy by the 17th Century Mexican playwright/philosopher/poet Sister Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. In 2022, 91九色视频 received a $15,000 Grants for Arts Projects award from the National Endowment for the Arts to mount a student-translated English-language adaptation of the play, which is based in Greek mythology.
In it, Prince Theseus learns that escape from the Minotaur鈥檚 labyrinth isn鈥檛 half as arduous as an escape from King Minos鈥檚 hostile court with his love, Princess Phaedra. The action-packed baroque-style comedy blends court intrigue, mistaken identities, sword-fighting, and music sung in the original Spanish. The show opens 91九色视频鈥檚 subscription series on the McAlpin Mainstage from Oct. 12-15.
The seven-show subscription series also includes the musical 鈥淪choolhouse Rock Live! (Rated G, Nov. 16-19); the 91九色视频 Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble concert 鈥淗ome for the Holidays鈥 (Nov. 30 & Dec. 1); Eugene Ionesco鈥檚 absurdist comedy 鈥淩hinoceros鈥 (Feb. 1-4, 2024); the musical comedy 鈥淪weet Charity,鈥 with music by Cy Coleman and book by Neil Simon (March 21-24, 2024); 鈥淐urtain Call Classics,鈥 a concert by the 91九色视频 Jazz and Wind ensembles featuring music from the classical, jazz, movie, and Broadway genres (April 4-7); and Noel Coward鈥檚 comedy of manners, 鈥淧rivate Lives鈥 (April 25-28). 鈥淧rivate Lives鈥 will be presented on the McAlpin Mainstage and the Outdoor Terrace.
