The 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ (91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ) Athletics Department has celebrated an amazing season this year with all seven sports teams earning their place in post-season competition. Most recently, the Indian River baseball and softball teams qualified to play at the FCSAA/Region VIII State Championships.
Indian River’s Pioneers Baseball team played in Lakeland on Wednesday, May 5 advancing against the Buccaneers of Florida Southwestern State College in a 7 to 12 win after 9 innings of play, ending their post-season play the next day against Santa Fe in a close 7 to 8, 11-inning match. Indian River’s Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year, Tibur Rivero, led the way in game 1 of post-season play having gone 9-0 on the year with a 3.52 ERA alongside First team All-Conference players, Troy Hamilton, MJ Restivo, Romeo Santabria and Chase Sangunetti who shared outstanding performances.
The Lady Pioneers Softball Team’s performance nearly led them to qualifying for the NJCAA National Tournament in Yuma, Arizona, as they competed for an FCSAA/Region VIII Championship for the first time since 2005. Their efforts were led by Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year, Jaden Williamson, and 1st Team All-Conference players, Morgan Roberts, Nicolette Luzzi and Daija Torchia. While they fell-short of the Championship win, their incredible performance in four state tournament games left no doubt in this team’s ability to deliver for ‘The River.’
With both teams’ post-season play in the books, we are all ‘91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Proud’ of these outstanding student-athletes performances both on the field and in the classroom. GO RIVER!
